The Marwari horse is a loyal and brave warhorse.
Marwari horses were used in battle and remained loyal to their riders until the end. These horses also have excellent hearing, hinting their owners when danger was near even before they were able to see it.
They were hated by the common folk of India
It wasn’t until after India achieved the independence that anyone besides noblemen to mount or own a Marwari horse. Once independent, the people of the lower class took the chance for revenge on the horses because of the hated symbol they had become.
A horse studied by scientists
This breed was once endangered and scientists decided to study them in order to help try to restore the breed. They traced back the breeding input of Arabian and Mongolian horses and their inward touching ears being linked to the Kathiawari horse, which is another rare and old breed.
Today’s modern Marwari
Originally this horse was only bred in black but now it can also be found in plenty of colors including bay, chestnut, grey, and black. They now participate in the Indian horse show circuit and are even used for showjumping.
