Victoria has always been driven by a deep-seated passion to rescue horses that others have given up on. From a young age, she has dedicated her life to giving these animals a second chance. Her commitment led to the establishment of the Last Chance Corral (LCC) in 1986, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization designed to offer sanctuary to horses in need. Through her efforts, the organization has become a beacon of hope, affirming her belief that there is always a horse in need of refuge and that someone must take the responsibility to intervene. This commitment stems not just from a love of animals but from a profound sense of duty to protect and heal the vulnerable.
Today, Last Chance Corral is not just a sanctuary for mistreated, unwanted, and misunderstood horses; it has grown to become one of the largest and longest-running independent neo-natal equine facilities in the country. Each year, from January through June, 150-200 orphan nurse mare foals are cared for at LCC. With over two decades of experience in the rescue, care, and rehoming of orphan foals, LCC has gained significant respect and recognition within the equine community. It has become a trusted resource, frequently offering advice to veterinarians and breeders dealing with the challenges of orphan care.
The operation at Last Chance Corral is sustained entirely by donor funding and relies on a small, dedicated staff employed year-round. The staff expands during foal season to meet the increased demands of caring for young foals. While volunteers play a vital role in supporting their mission, the critical nature of their work necessitates having trained, competent employees who are essential to the success of the organization. This structured approach ensures that every horse and foal at LCC receives the highest level of care and attention, maximizing their chances of recovery and successful adoption.
Victoria Goss, the founder of Last Chance Corral, has been at the forefront of horse rescue efforts since she was twelve years old. Her deep compassion and unwavering dedication have saved countless lives and continue to inspire others. Victoria’s insight into the darker aspects of the horse racing industry highlights the crucial nature of her work, emphasizing the importance of rescue operations for foals that would not otherwise survive. Her lifelong commitment to these majestic animals showcases an inspiring legacy of kindness and resilience, making a lasting impact not only on the lives of the animals she saves but also on the community that supports her mission.
