Every dog’s journey to their forever home is unique, and some may experience a longer wait than others. However, when the perfect match is made, the previous waits fade into insignificance. Let’s take a look at Major’s journey. For reasons that were never quite clear, this adorable pup had to spend over a year in a shelter before the right human came along to bring him home. The period filled with eager anticipation and hopeful looks towards every visitor finally culminated in joy for this black-and-white furry friend! Before becoming a beloved member of the community at the Naperville Area Humane Society, Major, at 3 years old, along with his brother Hilo, were cared for at a shelter in Quincy, Illinois.
The staff at NAHS mentioned that without their timely rescue, the fate of both dogs could have been grim, facing possible euthanasia. Major and Hilo are celebrated for their distinct and lively characters. They are both extremely friendly, enjoy human interaction at the shelter and are always ready for a game or two! The NAHS team recently highlighted Major and Hilo’s endearing qualities and their readiness for a home in a video. “This weekend marks their 365th day with us at NAHS, and it’s baffling why they haven’t found homes. We’ve compiled this video with input from our staff and volunteers, those who know them best, to highlight all the wonderful attributes they bring,” the message read. The shelter staff were puzzled by the lack of interest in Major, as he displayed no shortcomings that would deter adoption.
Not only is he a friendly and well-behaved dog, but he also has a gentle nature that made him a favorite among those who knew him! “Secretly, he’s the most intelligent one we have!” stated Winston, a volunteer at NAHS. “He’s incredibly affectionate, and everyone at the shelter is cheering for him to find his family,” Jane, another volunteer, added. And, according to Pam, “Major is just the sweetest boy.” Major shows an undiscriminating love towards his shelter mates, embracing them regardless of their characteristics, embodying a true sense of camaraderie and love. On a special Wednesday, 372 days since his arrival at the shelter, Jose, a man mourning the loss of his pet and looking for a new furry friend, visited NAHS. The staff was quick to introduce Major to Jose, sensing an instant connection. After their initial meeting, it was clear that Major was the perfect companion for Jose!
The shelter arranged a heartfelt send-off for Major, allowing him to say his goodbyes to each volunteer he had bonded with before he excitedly joined his new owner in the truck. The sight of Major cuddling next to Jose through the truck’s window warmed everyone’s heart, showcasing the dog’s contentment and happiness with his forever companion. And that smile on his face was truly heart-melting! Now living away from Naperville, Illinois, Major couldn’t be more thrilled about the new adventures awaiting him with Jose. “We’ve received wonderful news from Major’s new owner that Major is adjusting splendidly! He can now independently leap out of the truck and adores snuggling with his new human in the evening inside the truck cabin. Hearing about Major’s joyful experiences on the road fills us with immense happiness,” NAHS reported. Major’s life is now an ongoing adventure, filled with new experiences, and most importantly, his smile remains as bright as ever!
