The Yili is a small horse from the north-western Xinjiang region of China. Yili horses are normally bay, chestnut, black or gray and are an average height of 14 hands high. Their conformation is compact and firm and they have got a straight profile with a light head.
This small horse breed is used for riding and driving. They are also used as draft horses as they are very strong and are also bred for their milk. What you are going to watch in this video is thousands of Yili horses galloping in the snow. According to the herdsmen, they need to herd the horses to another ranch for winter since the snow covers their pasture from November to next year’s April. Interbreeding the horses with the desired type has established the breed and the population has increased.
The Yili has great endurance and can travel long distances at a good rate of speed and that’s why it is possible for the herdsmen to act in this way because if horses didn’t endure and travel long distances they wouldn’t be able to survive.
