One of the main characteristics widely known about horses is that they are herd animals. It means that the horses have a natural instinct of staying in huge groups. A study made about horses’ behaviors showed that even domesticated horses, even if they had never seen other horses as well, had a natural instinct of joining the group of horses in front of them.
People might think that because horses are raised as domesticated animals some of their behavior in the wild will lose but this is not the case. It is indeed true that some of the behavior might fade but this is not the case with them being domesticated animals.
The fact that they are herd animals is also significant when it comes to where do horses feel the happiest, in the wild or as domesticated animals and the majority of the people who have studied the horses’ behavior believe that horses are happier in the wild simply because of the fact that they are usually in huge groups there while as domesticated animals, they are usually alone or in smaller groups.
On the other hand, domesticated horses have easier lives because they are not exposed to the danger that the wild horses are exposed to. Well, the golden mean of all of this would be for all these horses to live together as domesticated animals. On one hand, they need the freedom and the social life that they have as wild animals, on the other hand, they need the safety that humans provide for them. This is the case with these horses at Duchess Sanctuary.
All these horses come from difficult lives and at one point, they were all saved and now they are living the best life altogether. There is nothing that they can complain about their current lives as they are enjoying their lives in the herd, on the other hand, the Duchess Sanctuary is taking care of them in an amazing way and they need to be applauded for this. Please have a look at the video below and let us know what you think about these amazing horses.
