For a horse owner, there’s nothing more precious than watching their horse sleeping peacefully. Sleep is vital and to make sure that horses sleep well is a big part of animal health. By only keeping a horse in a stable, we’re preventing the animal’s natural behavior, that’s why we must know how horses get sufficient sleep and how we can help by creating the right condition for them.
The sleep pattern of horses is in many aspects very different from the sleep pattern of humans. As we know, people usually sleep continuously for 8 hours each 24 hours. Different from them, horses sleep for shorter periods at a time and more frequently than once in 24 hours.
The complete sleep for an adult horse is just three hours each 24 hours but this thing changes as the horses are growing. For example, foals spend almost half the day sleeping till they’re more than three months old. As time passes, they take fewer naps and start resting more in a vertical position rather than lying down.
Adult horses mainly rest while standing up but still have to lie down when they want to fully sleep. In the cute video shown below, you will see an adorable foal who is sleeping and looks so lovable and sweet.
I’m pretty sure it will put a smile on your face as soon as you see it. Foals are very precious and some of the most innocent creatures around. You simply can’t be sad when you are near a foal because they give us so many positive feelings. Don’t miss the video!
