We can’t deny it, some horses look amazing with their manes braided. Horse mane braiding is becoming very popular these past years because it’s a unique way that horse owners use to highlight the beauty of their horses. This practice began more than a hundred years ago not for fashion but more as a matter of function.
Back then, people braided their horses’ mane to prevent the hair from tangling in riding tools, farming tools or weaponry (for warriors and hunters on horseback). Eventually, braiding was also used in different equine shows, where thoroughbreds and other racehorses are usually braided to distinguish them from the rest of the group.
Many breeds are often required to have their unique styling to their manes. Today you can see astonishing braiding in all horses, not just show horses. All domesticated horses profit from having their manes and tails untangled frequently to eliminate filth, tangles, and trash. That’s why a well-done braid is often viewed as an amazing way to show how much someone takes care of their animal.
Just as with peoples’ hair models, braiding a horse’s mane adds something different and unique to their appearance. We must say that not every horse can pull off braids. They look fabulous especially on horses with thick, rich manes, like Friesian horses. In the video shown below, you’ll see a majestic Friesian horse who looks just like a fashion model with his braided mane. He is aware of his beauty and it’s definitely not afraid to show it off. Enjoy his appeal in the video below!
