Over history, we have noticed that some horses are simply just bigger than others. One of them was Holy Roller, who was famous all over the world for his majestic figure. He was considered the world’s tallest racehorse and one of the biggest racehorses of all time. He was significantly bigger than other horses as a gelding but the interesting thing is that he just refused to stop growing.
When Holy Roller was born it was clear that he was a big colt and his owner declared that Holy Roller’s mom was completely exhausted after giving birth to him. According to the vets, Holy Roller wasn’t very likely to survive, but he convinced them that they wrong.
Not only did he became very healthy but under the guidance and supervision of two professional trainers, Jack and Bob Ingham, Holy Roller began training and soon his successful racing career began. His head was bigger than most jockeys at 110 pounds, and his feet were clipped as short as possible so he could fit into a size 8 shoe—3 sizes larger than a typical racehorse.
He was estimated to be around 18.1 hands high and weighed about 800kg, which is 10 inches taller and 300kg heavier than the average thoroughbred breed. But his massive figure didn’t stop him to become a great racehorse. He surprised everyone who thought that he wouldn’t make it. Holy Roller went on to become one of the most popular racehorses in Australia back in the ’90s and it is safe to say that he will never be forgotten.
