It’s a known fact that the equestrian industry has always been one of the most profitable and competitive sports industries in the world. It’s not the first we have talked about the horse market, especially about the racehorses, who are known for moving a lot of money. Horse races are very profitable and due to this fact, a large number of people have invested all their money in the horse business.
You wouldn’t believe the incredible amounts these people are willing to pay, just so they could be the owners of these “Money-making” horses. The world’s most expensive auction horse was sold for a record price of $ 16 Million. The Thoroughbred horse was named The Green Monkey, a beautiful bay colt who was foaled on February 4, 2004.
He was sold in January 2006 for $16 million, which is equal to about $20.3 million today. The colt’s new owners gave him the name because of their links with The Green Monkey golf course in Barbados, selected after the island’s green monkeys. Although all eyes were on him, and if he would live up to his price, the $16 million horse did not follow suit.
He went on to make three starts, but none of them were successful and he retired with incomes of only $10,440. Unfortunately, The Green Monkey died in Florida at the age of 14 after a long battle with laminitis. He will be always treasured as one of the biggest and most valuable busts!
