A real jocker is seen in his difficult moments! This saying is particularly true for Laura Cheshire, an Australian jockey who managed to give an excellent exhibition of horsemanship during the sixth race at Murwillumbah when the bridle broke on her horse soon after the race had started.
Even though not everybody who was watching the race at the time was very aware of the importance of the situation, the circumstances were terrible and, as such, the potential consequences were filled with danger. The other jockeys appeared to realize that Laura was racing without a bridle and they managed to do a good job by driving clear of her, but as the race was about to finish, Secret Blend continued to race around the track 3 times!
Nothing seemed to stop him, even a pony who tried to slow him down failed. When the reing came to an end, Laura quietly bent down and picked it up and just proceeded to try to calm Secret Blend. This case should be recognized as one of the best examples of horse and rider working together, and encouraging a more intense level of common understanding in exceptional circumstances to accomplish the best outcome.
Thankfully, both horse and rider managed to get out of this situation successfully and are in good form. “In the end, I am in this game because I love horses and not just because I want to win races,” Laura said. Such an inspiring story! We wish Laura and her horse the best of luck.
