There is nothing scarier than a wild horse showing up unexpectedly while you are passing by on a freeway. This scary event happened on 210 Freeway near Slymar, California in 2015. Many drivers witnessed the unusual situation and decided to call the authorities, in order to save the mustang mare. They finally rescued and sent her to Total Equestrian Experience in Chatsworth.
She was very skinny and afraid because she appeared to have had a shocking experience and wanted nothing to do with humans. Her trainer, Ashley Shrader, explained that every time they went to visit her at the stable she would just stand at the very back of it and wouldn’t come up at anyone. It was difficult even to approach her, let one ride her.
Fortunately, things changed for better when the mare was adopted by Ella Fox and her mom, Jen. Ella is a ten-year-old kid in a tiny body but with a very big heart. She decided to name the mare Dixie and ever since they got together, they became inseparable. At first, things weren’t that easy because Dixie was very agitated and the trainer was pretty sure she had been abused in the past.
But Ella was very determined and nothing could stop her, managing to tame Dixie in less than a year. Now, Ella and Dixie are not only riding partners but they even participate in different competitions. We are truly moved by this inspirational story!
