Nothing is impossible if you work really hard for it. A rider from England showed us the true meaning of this motivational quote by losing up to 38 kg to be able to ride her beloved horse after years of others riding him. The woman named Sam Winn, who had been a rider from a young age, started looking for a horse when she returned to riding after a break aged 21, in 2007.
She went to see a four-year-old Clydesdale and although she first thought he wasn’t for her, later she found out that they were meant to be together. He wasn’t sold as a show horse but he proved how skilled he was after Sam bought him.
She paid other people to ride him because she was insecure about her weight, never had a riding lesson because she gained 107 kg at her heaviest. “You hear nasty comments too; people saying ‘look at the size of her, good job she’s got a Clydesdale’, and it’s so easy to get stuck in a rut.” She decided to turn her life upside down after she lost her father in 2016 because the last time she saw him, he encouraged her to think about her weight.
Then she changed her lifestyle, started exercising and dieting, and lost nearly 40 kg. Then, Sam’s partner Graham, encourage Sam to sign up for her first official lessons and headed to her first shows. Their first show together was very difficult for both of them but Sam wanted to prove herself she could do it so she had lessons with a trainer who helped her a lot to improve herself. After that, they managed to turn up in their fifth place at Blair Castle International Horse Trials. “My goal for 2020 is simply to be better than I used to be.”- says Sam.
