2020 couldn’t start better for the Liberty Fire Department, who just in the first days of this new year, managed to save a horses’ life. They have proudly been serving the Missouri community since 1927 and they go by this motto, who says a lot about them: ”If they sent us to hell, we’d put it out”.
They did a very hard but rewarding work by saving the poor horse named Marla, who had been stuck in icy waters. We looked up their Facebook page, the Liberty Fire Department and read their posts who showed that they had rescued Marla early Sunday morning. Liberty Fire Chief Bill Gillespie declared that the horse was walking around onto the ice on a stream near Trues Pond when suddenly broke through.
Amongst the first responders was a man who used his tractor helping to get the horse to the shore. The poor horse was stuck in the water for nearly an hour and a half – but as soon as they saved her, she was covered in blankets to help warm up. In the photos below we can see Marla with the Veterinarian, Katherine Williams.
She said that Marla was eating great later that night and seems to be holding her own. Liberty Fire Department made sure to thank everyone who helped with this rescue because the rescue wouldn’t happen if they didn’t have help from the animal control officer and the neighbors. Without their support and with their tractor it would have been even more complicated to intervene.
