Every horse owner loves to take care of their horses’ appearance, especially us girls who enjoy trying different styles to braid our horses’ mane. Some styles are more difficult to do than others and require more time, but they are definitely worth it. Your horse will have an eye turning look with these braids. Below we have listed 4 beautiful mane styles with brief information and tutorials on how to do them yourself.
1 – Hunter/flat braids
Hunter braids are also known differently as flat braids. They are a famous model of braid that adds a touch of class to a horse’s neckline. These are usually made with yarn that similarly resembles the color of the mane. There may be up to 20 single braids up and down the horse’s neck!

2 – Running braid
The flowing braid is a French braid that covers the full horse’s neck. This braid demands a long mane and is typical for horses that require a long mane for some exhibits and a braided mane for others since most other braids work best on shorter manes.
3 – Mane pulling
Most braids require a short and thin mane. The best way to do a mane of the precise length is to pull out longer hairs by wrapping small parts round a metal pulling comb and pulling them out. This gives horses a more natural look.
4 – Roached or hogged
Some breeds and riding styles recommend shaving it all off. It takes more than 6 months or even a year for a mane to grow back, so it’s not something to try without thinking about it twice.
