One of the most interesting parts of traveling from one country to another is getting to know more about the history and traditions of a certain country and when it comes to horses, every single country in the world has something different from the other.
It is true that globalization has also brought the cultures together, either mixed them or making them affect one another, that’s why a lot of similarities exist, however they still have their own originality. Let’s get to know better a very famous German tradition, the horse-blessing ceremony.
Horse owners in the Bavarian town of Spalt, rode their horses across town to be blessed by a Catholic priest, in a traditional horse-blessing ceremony on St. Stephen’s day. The decorated horses trotted across town until they reached the church in the district of Wasserzell, where a Catholic priest gave his blessings and prayers.
The ceremony, which takes place every year on St. Stephen’s day, is thought to bring good health to horses. Alex, an established rider who was also part of the ceremony said, ‘I think that it is inspiring to just get to know other riders, and see other horses walk. Most of all, to get the blessing.’ Please watch the video below and learn more about this ceremony.
