With all of the technology out there, kids are becoming less and less interested in actual paper books. Screens have taken over leisure time. Afternoons used to be spent sitting in a sunny corner of the house, enjoying a good novel, but now? Kids just want to watch YouTube or cartoons on the TV.
Even in countries where the literacy rate is remarkably high, the interest in reading simply isn’t there, and children don’t want to make a trek to an actual library. So how do you get children interested in books again? In a rural town in Indonesia, one man has figured out the perfect solution. He wakes up in the morning, saddles up his horse, and takes her into town.
This is no ordinary saddle, though… it’s not to carry a person. Lula the horse is too little to carry a full-grown person, anyway. The saddle is for carrying books. The adorable horse attracts the attention of young children, but the books are what captivate their interest.
Books are wonderful things capable of bringing readers to entirely different worlds, but in this day and age, you sometimes have to find creative or adorable ways of drawing attention to those stories. While literacy in Indonesia is already high, children tend to prefer the TV… but not when Luna comes around. What a wonderful idea! All of the books have been donated to help get more kids reading and growing their minds. This man deserves all the world in his hands.
