Horses are some of the most beautiful animals on the planet. With their shiny coats and regal stance, they seem to command respect from everyone around them. Just watching them prance around is like some kind of choreographed routine. And even more beautiful than horses in a pen are wild horses.
The speed and power of a horse in the wild are incredible. To see for yourself, plan a trip to Assateague Island National Seashore. Located off the coast of Maryland, this island sees an influx of wild horses every summer and, man, are they a sight to see! It’s unbelievable to see these horses just swimming in the ocean or walking along the shoreline in close proximity to children building a sandcastle.
It’s like a scene out of a different time. If these horses were to wander up to the road, that would be a different story. This happened in Greece, with 50 horses shutting down a road just so that they could travel along. It’s an incredible sight! It’s quite a task to try to tame wild horses and teach them to behave gently before they are brought to life on a farm. The perfect candidates for a job like this? Prison inmates.
They can understand the lack of trust that exists for a horse that’s been taken from its home and thrown into an unfamiliar situation, and work to teach the horse control. These horse whisperers not only help the animals, but they also get incredible relationships and life lessons in return.
