When dealing with a serious illness, it’s easy for someone to quickly feel run-down by all the pain and anxiety that comes with it. That’s especially true for the unfortunate children dealing with hardship at such a young age. Doctors and parents will do whatever they can to help lessen the stress for their brave little patients, offering a variety of therapeutic services like the one shown in the video below.
Honor, a 10-month-old mini colt, works with the crew from Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses to help brighten the days of those having treatment at hospitals across the country. They also arrive to comfort communities after tragedies like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and the massive damage caused by tornadoes in Moore, OK, in 2013, and to comfort families of police officers who were lost in the line of duty.
The herd animals are notoriously intuitive and sympathetic creatures on top of being super-adorable. During this visit to a hospital in Manhattan, the precious cutie spent time with some of the patients at Kravis Children’s Hospital. One young girl, Maria, who is 19 but looks much younger, was so elated to see Honor, she immediately broke into a big smile for her favorite animal and was stunned to learn they could be so small!
The children were all given doctor’s approval to meet the sweet horse, and those not well enough to see him in person were able to observe from their rooms on an internal TV broadcast. Diane Rode, who runs the hospital’s creative arts therapy unit, explains that “children need more than medicine to get better.”
