I can’t decide which is more adorable: watching baby humans learn how to walk, or watching baby animals learn how to walk. On one hand, seeing human babies take their first steps is such a momentous milestone. On the other…have, you seen how adorable it is when baby animals learn how to use their legs? I think baby animals might just win the cuteness contest on this one.
If you don’t believe me, you have to see this baby zebra foal learning how to stand. He struggles to get his legs underneath him at first, wobbling about close to the ground. When he finally gets his confidence, though, it’s really majestic. He sidles up to his mother — another gorgeous striped creature — and trots alongside her to a field of roaming zebras.
Once he gets really confident, he even playfully trots circles around his mom! This natural tendency for zebras to stay close to their mothers is called imprinting, which these animals quickly do from smell and stripe pattern. The zebra foals will keep close for many months, and their mothers will defend them if any other animal comes too close.
It’s amazing to see zebras roaming free, which is what Florida’s Lion Country Safari lets more than 60 zebras do on their 50-acre habitat. You can even visit this drive-thru preserve to see these animals up close. Please watch the video below and let us know what you think about it.
