With society and neighborhoods changing, it’s becoming more uncommon to be friendly with your neighbors. Some people are in and out at odd hours, or busy when everyone else is! You never quite know what’s happening next door. Martha Carrasco quickly realized she had no idea what secrets her neighbors had been hiding when animal control showed up to her house in a suburb of Las Vegas.
It turned out, just next door, a terrible case of animal abuse had been going on. “I didn’t even really know they had as many animals as they had,” Martha explained to the local news. “I’m surprised to see they had as many animals as they had.” Animal control was tipped off about Martha’s neighbors when someone reported that a loose horse had been roaming the neighborhood.
That horse led them to a shocking discovery. Somehow, the neighbors had been hoarding 13 horses, 150 roosters, 400 pigeons, four turtles, and two guinea pigs on their property — and no one around had any idea. Animal control was quick to remark upon how terrible the animals’ living conditions had been, describing them as “unsanitary” and “deplorable” for the poor creatures.
The Metro Animal Abuse crew spent a whole day removing the animals from the home and brought them to a shelter where they’d be cared for. The homeowners are certain to face charges for such terrible abuse toward the animals, though the news station is still awaiting the details.
