It is not easy to get on the back of a young horse as it might not feel comfortable with the rider and might act in an unpredictable way by being very dangerous for the one who mounts. Rick Gore has his own way of making a horse accept a rider and what you are going to watch is Rick Gore explaining how to deal with a young horse who has never had a rider on its back.
Rick uses horsemanship techniques by slowly showing the horse how to accept weight and movement around him by leaning on the horse or just jumping to exercise a little bit of pressure. He also uses desensitizing techniques to get the horse to accept the rider being on his back without causing stress to the horse. The main technique that he uses is pressure and release.
Allowing a horse to get release is the key because if you put only pressure there is no skill in that and probably it will take a long time for the horse to accept the rider. Knowing and understanding a horse and using release of pressure to get the right answer with timing and feel takes experience. Watch the video for more!
