“It is easy to conquer the world from the back of a horse” – Genghis Khan. We have all heard about the Mongol Derby which is considered to be the world’s longest and toughest race and it also was the nerve system of the largest empire in the human history. You square up to 1000km of Mongolian steppe on semi-wild horses, changing steed every 40km.
You navigate and survive on your own wits and skill, living among the herders. It’s you and your horse versus the wild. But what you are going to watch in this video is just amazing and you will immediately fall in love with the wild country of Mongolia all over again. This video shows us that there are still a few wild places left in this world where you can enjoy the freedom to wander, roam, and travel on the back of a horse. It is not a dream but a reality. Of the three million horses inhabiting the steppe, the great majority of them live in large semi-feral herds surviving temperature extremes from -40°C in winter to +30°C in summer.
They mostly eat steppe grass, drink water as they find it, and are rarely given any extra nutrition by the herders. Diminutive, sturdy, fearless, wild, and unbelievably tough they have changed very little over the centuries. To the nomadic Mongolians living on the steppe, these horses are an integral part of their social culture. Enjoy the video!
