As you may all know Remembrance Sunday is a national holiday in the United Kingdom which is held on the second Sunday of November to commemorate the contribution of Commonwealth military and other British service members who died in the First and Second World War and other military conflicts as well. A mounted service took place on 10th November to commemorate all the horses and soldiers who fought during different wars throughout history.
This service has turned to an annual event because its popularity grows stronger from a year to another. It takes place at Wynyard Hall, Stockton-On-Tees, a hotel who offers luxurious accommodation and it is located in North East England. Mounted service is organized by Steve Birbeck. He is one of the most important masters of Yorkshire’s first bloodhound pack called the Highmoor Bloodhounds.
This year, they were hoping to raise money along with a foundation called Here4horses, a local rescue charity. “It’s quite a spectacle to watch, so we are hoping to get some more members of the public to come along,” Birbeck said.
Although the event was oversubscribed for horses, just like a year before when more than 200 riders were positioned outside the hall, foot followers were more than welcomed to participate in this service. People from different backgrounds, some of them are professional riders, some are ex-military people and some of them have nothing to do with hunting, all gather together to honor all the horses who fought for their country.
