The Menorquín is a breed of horse from the island of Menorca in the Balearic Islands, from which it has taken its name. This breed was recognized and enlisted officially in 1989, known this way aa a very young equine breed compared to other breeds. Despite this fact, the Menorcan people have a long history with this livestock breed. This is proved by the Roman author called Cayo Plinio Cecilio Segund mentioned the Menorquin horses in his writings who date back to the first century AD.
There has always been a strong bond between the island of Menorca, the animals and the people living there, who have long identified using this firm breed for cattle work. Though its ancestry is still a little bit unclear, it is believed that this breed has evolved from crossing these three widely famous breeds: English Thoroughbred, Andalusian, and Arabian.
Their population decreased a lot in 2011 but fortunately, it is now listed as an endangered breed. People who have trained them or own them say that they are very cheerful, intelligent and take the tasks that are given to them very seriously. These horses have always been associated with Doma menorquina, a traditional style of riding that was invented on the island of Menorca and is mostly based on classical dressage.
Although the video we’ve posted has gained a lot of attention from the audience, we must say that people have different opinions regarding this performance. Some consider this animal cruelty while others say that he was trained to do this and there’s nothing wrong with it. What do you all think? Please let us know in the comment section.
