Police horses have gained a lot of popularity and play a very important in particular duties, such as crowd control, crime prevention and high perceptibility policing roles. They give the officers an asset due to their height, flexibility, and speed. They serve for a specific period of time and when they retire from their public duties, they are normally sent to horse sanctuaries.
Two beautiful police horses were sent at the Bransby Horses in Lincoln, England to enjoy their well-deserved retirement. They were called Gainsborough and Saratoga and served at the London Metropolitan Police. Unfortunately, they couldn’t continue their former work due to health issues.
Gainsborough is 18 years old, a huge bay gelding who was taken by the Police in 2003 at the age of 4, and served with them for a few years but then retired as a result of an injury. The other horse, Saratoga, was bought by the Police in 2015 at 4 years old, like Gainsborough, but soon he got sick too, developing lameness. Examinations revealed a torn ligament in his stifle.
Both of them have completed the circle of a police horse and are living a quiet and happy life at the sanctuary. Maybe their former work got them together but they are now also are one another good company in the field. They are both very sweet and kind natures. They deserve to live their remaining years in the best conditions, of course, with each other. We are thankful for these wonderful police horses who dedicated their lives to humans.
