It is a very special story of a young man who never gave up and did everything he could to change his life.
This is the story of Carl Sims, a brave boy who is now able to pay for his own expenses and put himself through college, all alone. He also runs a professional equine photography business named C. Sims Photography in Dickinson, Texas where he shoots weddings, family photos, special celebrations, and, as you may have expected, beautiful equine sessions. Furthermore, he is getting more recognition day by day in the horse business due to his special life story. We must say that every little detail about his unusual life, has made him the man he is today. Carl had developed a great love and passion for horses since he was a child but his story began when he was in 6th grade and managed to collect $300 to buy his first horse, a rescue, named King.
That was the day when his life would change forever. From that moment Carl knew that his life would turn upside down and that he would do everything he could, to provide his new horse a normal and healthy life. King was malnourished, nervous and had obviously been abused before his rescue. Unfortunately, he couldn’t provide to accommodate King at a stable, but his grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, had an acre of land and shelter he could use. That’s why he decided to move in with her and take King with him. “Since my boyhood, she’s noticed that my love for horses is strong, and she loves it.
She is a country girl born and raised. She would follow me outside and observe me for hours and tell me how good I am to the horses and how I will go places with them,” said Carl. In fact, she was completely right! Little did Carl know that King would open a new beautiful, challenging but also a very rewarding chapter in his life. Although King had been malnourished and abused, he gave Carl an unconditional love and showed him that despite what we go through, what really matters is to never give up. King was able to show him love but his next horse, a stunning paint horse named Skipper showed Carl his new love for showing halter.
“He made me learn the discipline of halter which made me grow a passion towards the field,” said Carl. They started training together and Carl made sure to put a lot of work and dedication to his new hobby. Eventually, they became so good at it that they went on to receive Top 5 Honors at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. They did such a great job, considering the fact that Carl did it all by himself, without asking for anyone’s help. Needless to say, they deserved to be on Top 5 Honors more than anyone else. “One of the reasons I am so motivated is that I set goals for myself that I want to accomplish. If you do not accept yourself, who will,” said Carl.
“My primary goal in the future is to be very successful in the equine industry and to be a very successful entrepreneur.” He is a truly successful example not only for every teenager but also for everyone who needs to change their life. If you really want something, you have to work very hard in order to achieve it. Just like Carl does everyday. Even though he is still a student he is hoping to continue growing his photography business. He is already living his dream of mixing his two biggest passions – working with horses and capturing the most emotional moments in peoples’ lives!
