The saying goes ‘what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas’, but if what happened in the FEI World Cup Dressage Final spread further abroad and the sport of dressage hit the jackpot, big time. Mention dressage in America and one name instantly comes to mind, Brentina. As she blazed a path to international dressage glory, the striking Hanoverian mare captured the imagination of American dressage enthusiasts, who hoped she could be the one to take on the European dressage powerhouses and win.
The general rule of thumb in dressage is for the spectators to remain silent from the start of the performance until the finish, but in this case, the crowd could not contain itself. The choreography and music choice could not have been more perfect for the gorgeous mare, as each of Brentina’s footfalls struck the ground in perfect timing.
The crowd got totally involved and as Brentina performed her last piaffe pirouette and passage down the center line, the packed stadium found itself clapping along to the music which was reaching its climax. The world will forever remember that performance as one that changed the direction of the sport.
