You all know that some professions require great courage and you are probably thinking that I am talking about police, rescuers, firefighters, etc. Well, it is totally true and I would never acknowledge that, however, would you ever think that photographing requires great courage as well? Sometimes, to take the perfect shot you need to overcome risky moments, for example, the photographers in the wild have to deal with a lot of dangerous animals on a daily basis. At the same time, they need to shoot perfect photos and keep themselves safe. It is difficult to shoot the perfect photo from a safe distance, that is why these photographers are usually trained to deal with animals as well.
Well, everything mentioned about photographers above falls under the expected category, however, danger might come in unpredictable circumstances as it did for the photographer that we are going to talk about. This photographer thought that he had found the perfect spot to photograph horse and rider jumping over obstacles together but little did he know that the horse led himself to his direction. It was very difficult for the rider to stop her horse from jumping over the fence and at the same time, the photographer.
Nothing could have been done but praying about a perfect jump so the photographer wouldn’t be injured and fortunately, it came. The horse managed to jump over the obstacle and the photographer and neither the horse not the photographer was injured. Under British Eventing rules, there is no penalty for jumping extra fences, so Maidson, the horse’s owner received 20 penalties for crossing her tracks, but was allowed to continue. She apologized to the photographer, refound her stirrups and picked up where she left off to jump the rest of the course clear.
She also said that she messaged the photographer to say sorry to him for what has happened and the next time she would be sure that something similar won’t happen again. She bought her horse at only 5 years old, now he is 9 and they have been through a lot together. As she explains, her horse’s way of jumping over the obstacles is by overjumping over 2 feet over them. I have to say that in other circumstances, it could have been fatal for the photographer but luckily, the horse managed to jump over that fence like a true champion. It was anxious, indeed.
