Horses are a really important part of our lives and we can’t imagine life without them. They are our best friends and are always there for us in both times of happiness and sadness. Therese Nery is an amateur equestrian and loves horses so much she spends most of her free time with them. Her story is summed up in these words which came out of her mouth ‘I chose my horse over my husband.’ There are obviously countless reasons why a couple decides to break up or file for divorce but Theresa filed for a divorce because her husband asked her to get rid of her horse.
Maybe this was one of the main reasons because as Theresa says ‘As anyone who has survived a failed, long-term relationship knows that there comes a point when even a single thought and claim can put an end to it.’ She started riding when she was 21 years old and since then she hasn’t stopped and her love for horses is just insatiable. She wanted to learn how to ride so badly and when she could afford taking riding lessons she didn’t hesitate but immediately started doing what she loved. As time passed she saved to buy and could afford to buy her own horse. It was a dream come true to her. Her boyfriend didn’t mind about it but when they got married everything changed as the bills started to grow. She loved horses and she didn’t intend to give up one her horse and dream but it all came to an end when her husband asked her to get rid of her horse.
Theresa considered her horse as part of the family and getting rid of her mare was like getting rid of a family member. The situation became so tense that neither of them could bear it anymore. There was no communication between them so she filed for divorce because she believed her husband stopped being her life partner but her mare never stopped being her riding partner. It took some time to pick up the pieces after the divorce but now, Theresa is living with someone who understands her and considers both of them Theresa and her mare as part of the family.
