Raising farm animals is a difficult job and one that requires a careful blend of intuition and professional skill. When emergency situations arise, farmers need to react quickly and often come up with creative solutions to solve them. When Marek Slodkowski (aka The Lone Farmer) discovered one of his horses was trapped in a repair trench, he was both surprised and concerned.
This was the first time anything like this had happened in his many years of working with horses, and he didn’t know how to get her out. The trench was too deep for her to get out, despite her best efforts. Slodkowski first tried to help her get out on her own.
He put some hay down for the horse’s comfort, as well as to elevate her. When she still hadn’t freed herself overnight, he called the fire department for help. And thankfully a slew of firefighters came to the rescue! They were faced with a tricky situation because of the horse’s weight and fear.
With the help of Slodkowski, they propped her up as much as possible on hay and then worked together to lift her out by creating a sling with multiple hoses. After a few failed attempts, they were finally able to free the trapped horse. Amazing teamwork came together to give this story a happy ending!
