The Calgary Stampede is known for its rodeo and chuckwagon races, but in the stampede’s recent history, another event was added to salute the cowboy heritage. The Calgary Stampede Cowboy Up Challenge is an equestrian sporting event that showcases both horse and rider as they maneuver through multiple obstacles.
What you are going to watch in this video is the 2016 champion Jim Anderson and his horse, Marilyn Monroe. The mare went out with a bang as this was her last career ride. According to Jim Anderson, taking the various obstacles is mainly about trust in your horse and your horse in you. It is a real horsemanship test. It’s not easy to compete in this kind of competition as the obstacles really test your horsemanship skills and the horse’s athletic ability as well.
The horse shows to be really pretty and smart always willing to please its rider and listening to every command Anderson gives. The horse is fantastic and the rider is very good but a little heavy-handed for my taste. Maybe it is his style of training but he did have total control over his horse. What do you think about this?
