Do you all know what a guide pet is? A guide pet is a pet trained to help blind humans, in other words, they are trained to become the humans’ eyes. It is very difficult for blind people to walk around hence they need help. Guide pets are definitely one of the best solutions to problems like this.
A miniature horse in training to be a blind man scared of dogs could be Britain’s smartest steed – as he can already crossroads, find post boxes and activate traffic lights. Two-year-old Digby, a two-foot-tall American miniature horse from Northallerton, Yorks, has spent the last year training to become the UK’s first guide horse.
Once fully trained, he will begin living with dog-phobic Mohammed Salim Patel, from Blackburn, Lancs, and assisting him with day-to-day tasks just like a guide dog would. Mohammed, 24, a planning producer with the BBC, has degenerative eye condition retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that has since made him virtually blind.
As you can see, it takes a lot of time for these animals to get trained properly, however, it is worth mentioning that they do significantly improve these people’s lives. The video below is the best example of what I just said.
