As all of us know, horses are one of the few animals who are domesticated massively all over the world. If we take the millions of species that are out there, there is an insignificant percentage of animals who have been domesticated. Not only one of the few, but horses are also one of the oldest domesticated animals since antiquity and have contributed a lot in the development of the society that we have nowadays. A very hot topic regarding horse domestication is whether they are happier as domesticated animals or in the wild.
The majority of horse people who have observed the behavior of horses both as domesticated and wild animals believe that horses are way happier in the wild. One of the things that horses appreciate the most is their freedom, something that they would not change with anything. Despite being exposed to a lot of danger, horses love staying in huge herds and prefer that lifestyle over a safer lifestyle, no matter how good of an owner you are. Of course, this is debatable and I would like all of you to share your opinion as well.
When you look at these gorgeous wild ponies at Virginia State Park, it is quite convincing that this might be true. They are all roaming free and they look happier and ever to be all together and enjoy doing what they like doing the most, running in the wild. All of them are one more beautiful than the other. You can tell that they feel very comfortable with each other, it is something that they are used to but even if they were domesticated and then they saw a group of horses running together, they would have probably joined them immediately.
Horses are herd animals, which is more of an instinct than a learned behavior so it feels natural to them to stay in such herds. This is one of the things that I love the most about them, they are always there to support each other in every situation, which is amazing. What do you think about these amazing horses?
