We have heard the phrases ‘chase the carrot’ or ‘carrot and stick’ in our everyday lives and we always have thought of something unreachable. Taken literally this means that you can make a mule or horse move forward by placing a carrot or some other food hanging from a stick, in front of its face. In the old days a carrot was tied to a stick in front of a wagon’s mule or stubborn horse to make them step forward and walk ahead.
They were never able to reach the carrot because the animal itself moved the object it was seeking. But is this method still used nowadays? The video you are going to watch shows that it is a good trick for the horse to make him put a little more effort. The girl on the back of her horse holds a carrot on a stick suspended in front of the pony’s head and the pony follows the carrot around. It might seem like a tease to the horse because we consider a treat a ‘thank you’ or a friendly offering for what the horse has done.
At all times the relationship is and must be based on respect and reciprocal trust but the girl was just doing it as a joke and it isn’t a daily thing. You just can’t make your horse a food-motivated one, you just do it to see his reaction and to have fun together. Watch the video and share your opinions with us!
