A lot of racehorses, after finishing their career, end up to slaughter houses and lucky are the ones who get rescued. What you are going to watch in this video is the story of Twiggy who was saved while being sent to a slaughter house. After the horse was saved she was sold to her new owners for $1500. Sarah, her new owner, who just 16 years old didn’t know much about horses although she knew how to ride. It was like a fresh start for her and she was so happy that she spent most of her free time with Twiggy.
Although she loved her so much, it wasn’t easy to keep her because the horse needed a lot of space, food and a proper shelter. The expenses were high to be made and although Sarah sacrificed everything she had Twiggy still started to show problems. Whenever she tried to ride her, Twiggy would rear, buck and show signs of discomfort. She knew something was wrong with the horse and after the vets checked her they said that she needed some re-adjustments and retraining that would cost a lot of money. Sarah and her parents couldn’t afford that so the vet that came to check on Twiggy took her home with her.
After some examinations it turned out that Twiggy had some serious health issues in addition to a twisted pelvis. Putting her to sleep was the best decision as they couldn’t take it anymore to see Twiggy in pain, and Twiggy couldn’t bear the pain. This story should encourage others to talk more about horses’ welfare and act more responsibly. Watch the video!
